Product Description
The lightning fast shape and color recognition game that is sure to test the reflexes of kids, families and gamers alike.
From the Manufacturer
Balduin, the house ghost, found an old camera in the castle cellar. Immediately he photographed everything that he loves to make disappear when he is haunting including himself, of course. Unfortunately, the enchanted camera takes many photos in the wrong colors. Sometimes the green bottle is white, at other times it's blue. Looking at the photos, Balduin doesn't really remember any more what he wanted to make disappear next. Can you help him with his haunting and quickly name the right item, or even make it disappear by yourself? If you grab the right items quickly, you have a good chance of winning. In Geistesblitz, five wooden items sit on the table waiting to be caught: a white ghost, a green bottle, a cute grey mouse, a blue book and a comfortable red chair. Each card in the deck shows pictures of two objects, with one or both objects colored the wrong way. With all players playing at the same time, someone reveals a card, then players grab for the "right" object but which object is right? If one object is colored correctly say, a green bottle and a red mouse then players need to grab that correctly colored object. If both objects are colored incorrectly say, a green ghost and a red mouse then you look for the object and color not represented among the four details shown. In this case you see green, red, ghost and mouse, so players need to grab the blue book. The first player to grab the correct object keeps the card, then reveals the next card from the deck. If a player grabs the wrong object, she must discard one card previously collected. Once the card deck runs out, the game ends and whoever has collected the most cards wins.

Other things I really enjoy about it:
1. Very simple to teach (~1 min), difficult to master, especially in competitive settings
2. Flexible in terms of required time for game play - can go anywhere from a few seconds for just a few cards to hours if people are really into it!
3. Flexible in terms of number of people - you can play with 2 and likely beyond 8 if you can fit everyone in to grab. You can also play in teams or have a free for all.
4. Flexible range of ages - I've played with kids as young as 4 and all the way up to senior citizens. The components are cute and the rules simple, allowing the game to masquerade as a children's game but the gameplay gives it much wider appeal. Great teaching tool for young kids - would also recommend it for educational purposes.
5. Modular design allowing you to adjust difficulty level through introduce advanced rules and additional sets - I have played with all three sets together (Ghost Blitz, Ghost Blitz 2.0, and Ghost Blitz 5 to 12) and all the advanced rules, resulting in a game where you flip a card and stare at 19 objects to try to figure out what to grab or say before your opponent(s)!
I play this with my 85+ year old grandmother.
I play this with everyone in between.
There is no way you can get through this game without laughing and being blown away by your own brain!
Such a fun game!!
Does not get old!!
Folks also liked that no one had heard of it, so that always feels good...when you discover something new. Truly a game for any age. Good pub game too as it is so small it fits in a baggy. The components are good quality. I tossed the box it came in, way too big. I keep it in a ziplock.
It's easy to learn and fun to play. Points are awarded when you grab or say the correct item, you get the card. If you grab or say the wrong item, or grabbed when you should've said/said when you should've grabbed, you give a card to the deck and it'll get replayed at some point. When all cards are out, the player with the most cards wins. Fun for 2 or more players, can be played with 1, recommended for 8+ years but maybe a smart younger kid could understand it.
we play one card, then we have the "losing" players answer a question then play another card
shyer kids can have issues with not being fast enough and end up taking things personally, if you play in the wrong group- even if you are trying to keep things fairly non-competitive
we enjoyed it at home, but again - some groups dont do as well with what can be such a directly competitive game /shrug
i will say the core game design is sound, it is fun, and the components are all top notch - i'm bumping this review back up to 4 (i shouldn't rate my experiences over the game product itself)
